Good Morning Troopies!
Valor’s Veterinary team worked last night to assess and stabilize this sweet young boy. He’s estimated to be 8-10mo old and weighed in at 49lbs. X-rays, IV meds, the works.
Valor has some road rash that was cleaned and tended too and some bumps and bruises typically expected from a tangle with a motor vehicle.
Unfortunately and of primary concern… he also has a very, very serious, open compound fracture of the Tibia and Fibula. It is at the knee on his rear left leg as well fractured at/above the growth plate and joint.
Infection is not our friend here, as everything on that road; asphalt, dirt, gasoline, oil, you name it…is now in that bone and wound. It is already deeply infected and in very bad shape.
Heavy antibiotics and pain medications were started over night to give him the best chance and alleviate some of his pain. He is a real trooper this boy! It is unclear how long this sweet boy was down after being hit, but he went long enough without emergency care to be on the wrong side of the infection odds.
Later today he will undergo orthopedic surgery. Please keep Valor in your thoughts and prayers as the Doctors make the very best decisions for Valor while they work on his injuries.
