Walking in the Sunshine

Valor Update!
Friday 6/30/2016 2pm

Singing…
“Walkin’ in the sunshine, sing a little sunshine song
Put a smile upon your face as if there’s nothing wrong
Think about a good time had a long time ago
Think about forgetting about your worries and your woes
Walkin’ in the sunshine, sing a little sunshine song” (Roger Miller)

Look at him go!
He’s got a Fentanyl patch for pain and he wanted to go outside all on his own. What a trooper…might have to nickname this boy “Super-Trooper”

Hopefully tomorrow he’ll start eating and that will really turn things around.

We are so grateful for the wonderful vet team caring for Valor and all of his Angels and Troopies for standing by him!

Bravery on 3 Legs

Thursday June 29th, 2017 10:00pm

This afternoons surgery confirmed our worst fear…the damage to Valor’s leg from the car was catastrophic. There simply was nothing left to repair, as the fractures and impact decimated the joint and surrounding bone and infection had already set in deep from the great many hours he laid waiting for help after being plowed over by the vehicle.

The decision to save his life and his future by sacrificing his limb was an easy one really! Sure we humans judge the capabilities of others, both animals and humans by physical presence, but in the dog world…well legs are just numbers so to speak – 4, 3, and for some even 2!

Valor’s journey is just getting started however, and what’s important now is that we support him while he heals and recovers from the punishment he took on the road.

He will remain hospitalized for a few days and then move to a medical foster home to recover. He is receiving heavy duty antibiotics and pain medications to support him.

Some Amazing TSBR TriPawds have come before Valor – including Sidney our inspiration for starting TSBR (http://bomber.tripawds.com/) and Henry who lost his leg due to sarcoma a few years back and is enjoying the good life now with his amazing adoptive family!

Valor – we have your back buddy and your TSBR Troopies will be right here watching for when you take your first steps as a TriPawd!

OFF the Road and ON the Right Path

Thursday June 29th, 2017 6:30am

Good Morning Troopies!
Valor’s Veterinary team worked last night to assess and stabilize this sweet young boy. He’s estimated to be 8-10mo old and weighed in at 49lbs. X-rays, IV meds, the works.

Valor has some road rash that was cleaned and tended too and some bumps and bruises typically expected from a tangle with a motor vehicle.

Unfortunately and of primary concern… he also has a very, very serious, open compound fracture of the Tibia and Fibula. It is at the knee on his rear left leg as well fractured at/above the growth plate and joint.

Infection is not our friend here, as everything on that road; asphalt, dirt, gasoline, oil, you name it…is now in that bone and wound. It is already deeply infected and in very bad shape.

Heavy antibiotics and pain medications were started over night to give him the best chance and alleviate some of his pain. He is a real trooper this boy! It is unclear how long this sweet boy was down after being hit, but he went long enough without emergency care to be on the wrong side of the infection odds.

Later today he will undergo orthopedic surgery. Please keep Valor in your thoughts and prayers as the Doctors make the very best decisions for Valor while they work on his injuries.
